Exercise guide
Calf Press
The Calf Press is a machine exercise in which the balls of the feet press against a platform while the ankles move through plantar flexion. The calves raise and lower the heels while the knees remain nearly fixed. Seat position determines the starting angle of the legs.
Training context
How is the Calf Press different?
The machine supports the torso and guides the platform, allowing the exercise to focus on ankle movement. Unlike a standing calf raise, balance is not a major limitation.
The knees should remain slightly bent or softly extended according to the machine design. Repeatedly bending and straightening them turns the exercise into a partial leg press.
Technique overview
Keep the knees still as the ankles move
Place the balls of your feet securely on the platform and establish the machine position. Press through the forefoot to raise the heels as high as you can control. Pause briefly, then lower through a comfortable calf stretch. Keep the feet from sliding and avoid bouncing at the bottom.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
