Exercise guide

Bent Over Low-Pulley Side Lateral

The Bent Over Low-Pulley Side Lateral is a one-arm cable raise for the rear shoulder and upper back. The working arm begins beneath the torso and moves outward while the opposite hand supports the bent-over position. The cable provides tension throughout the return as well as the lifting phase.

Training context

Who may find this cable raise useful?

This variation may suit someone who wants to train each rear shoulder separately while using constant cable tension. The supported hand can make it easier to maintain the hinge than an unsupported dumbbell variation.

Pulley height, distance from the machine, and torso angle affect the resistance path. Recreate those details when switching sides.

Technique overview

Keep the torso still as the arm rises

Hinge forward, support yourself with the free hand, and let the working arm hang from the shoulder. Raise the handle outward until the arm approaches shoulder height, then lower slowly. Keep a slight bend in the elbow and avoid twisting the chest upward to create more range.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
