Exercise guide
Cable Lateral Kick
The Cable Lateral Kick is a standing hip-abduction exercise performed with an ankle cuff and low pulley. The working leg moves away from the body while the stance leg and torso provide balance. The hip abductors perform the main movement, with the glutes assisting.
Training context
Why use the Cable Lateral Kick?
The exercise trains one side at a time and provides resistance throughout the outward and inward portions of the movement. Holding the machine lightly allows balance to remain secondary to the hip action.
The leg does not need to rise high. Once the pelvis tilts or the torso leans strongly in the opposite direction, the additional range is no longer coming mainly from the working hip.
Technique overview
Keep the pelvis and support steady
Stand sideways to the low pulley with the cuff on the leg farthest from the stack. Hold a stable support and move the working leg directly outward. Pause briefly, then return slowly without allowing the foot to be pulled inward. Keep the toes and pelvis mostly facing forward throughout the set.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
