Exercise guide
Hip Abductor
The Hip Abductor machine trains the muscles that move the thighs away from the midline. The abductors provide the primary effort, while the glutes assist throughout the outward press and return.
Training context
Keeping the Hip Abductor Controlled
Seat and pad position determine the starting range. The legs should begin from a comfortable position that does not force the hips or knees inward before the repetition starts.
Use the handles for stability rather than pulling the torso forward. Record the machine, seat setting, load, and range when comparing sessions.
Technique overview
Keep the pelvis against the seat
Sit securely with the legs positioned against the pads and the torso supported. Press the thighs outward without rocking the pelvis or bouncing into the end position. Pause briefly, then allow the pads to return under control. Reduce the load or range if the hips shift or the machine pulls the legs inward abruptly.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
