Exercise guide
Cable Shoulder Press
The Cable Shoulder Press is a standing overhead press performed between two low pulleys. The shoulders press the handles upward while the triceps straighten the elbows. Independent cables allow each arm to move separately and require the torso to remain centered.
Training context
What is the Cable Shoulder Press?
The exercise uses upward cable resistance rather than a barbell or dumbbells. This creates tension at shoulder height and throughout the overhead press.
Both cable stacks should use matching settings. A staggered stance may improve balance, but the hips and torso should remain square between the towers.
Technique overview
Press both handles evenly overhead
Begin with the handles at shoulder height and your palms facing forward or slightly inward. Press upward without allowing one hand to move ahead of the other. Pause in a controlled overhead position, then lower to the shoulders. Keep the ribs down and avoid leaning backward to finish the press.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
