Exercise guide
Car Drivers
Car Drivers are performed by holding a weight plate at arm's length and rotating it like a steering wheel. The shoulders maintain the extended arm position while the forearms and hands control the plate. Although the equipment field lists a barbell, the source instructions use a barbell plate.
Training context
Benefits of Car Drivers
The exercise combines an isometric front-raise position with repeated plate rotation. This creates continuous shoulder demand while the grip and forearms control the changing hand positions.
A light plate is usually sufficient because the arms remain extended. Heavy resistance often causes the elbows to bend or the torso to lean backward.
Technique overview
Rotate the plate without moving the torso
Stand tall and hold the plate at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions with your arms extended in front of you. Rotate the plate to one side, reverse through the center, and continue to the other side. Keep the plate at the same height and avoid shrugging, swaying, or rushing the turns.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
