Exercise guide

Crucifix

The Crucifix is a timed strongman event in which an implement is held in each hand with both arms extended to the sides. The shoulders maintain the arm position while the forearms and grip secure the implements. The attempt ends when the arms fall below the required height.

Training context

Before training the Crucifix Hold

Axes, hammers, dumbbells, and competition handles can all feel different because their balance points and grips vary. Record the exact equipment along with the hold time.

The standing area should be clear, and there should be a planned place to lower each implement. Avoid continuing after the arms have clearly dropped below the intended position.

Technique overview

Hold the arms level without leaning

Stand securely with one implement in each hand and raise the arms outward until they are near parallel with the floor. Keep the torso upright, wrists controlled, and shoulders level. Breathe during the hold and end the attempt when the arms can no longer maintain the target height. Lower both sides deliberately.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
