Exercise guide
Dumbbell Incline Shoulder Raise
The Dumbbell Incline Shoulder Raise is a small-range movement performed with the arms held above the shoulders. Instead of bending the elbows, the lifter reaches the dumbbells slightly upward by moving the shoulder blades away from the bench. The shoulders provide the main movement while the triceps hold the arms extended.
Training context
Keeping the shoulder raise controlled
This exercise is not an incline press. The elbows remain straight while the upper back and shoulder blades create the short upward reach.
Only a small range is available. Using heavy dumbbells can make it difficult to distinguish the shoulder-blade movement from an unstable press.
Technique overview
Reach upward without bending the elbows
Settle against the incline bench with the dumbbells directly above the shoulders. Keep the arms extended and reach the weights slightly toward the ceiling by allowing the shoulder blades to move from the bench. Return until the shoulders are supported again. Avoid shrugging toward the ears or turning the movement into an elbow press.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
