Dumbbell One-Arm Shoulder Press
The One-Arm Dumbbell Shoulder Press trains one shoulder at a time while the triceps assist with elbow extension. It may be performed seated with back support or standing. Pressing one side independently also requires the torso to resist leaning toward or away from the load.
Training context
Why press one arm at a time?
Unilateral pressing makes it easier to focus on the path and control of each shoulder. The free hand may rest at the waist or hold a stable support when balance is needed.
Seated and standing versions should be treated as separate variations because the support and trunk demands differ.
Technique overview
Keep the torso centered beneath the weight
Bring the dumbbell securely to shoulder height and establish a balanced base. Press overhead without leaning sideways or arching the lower back. Finish with the weight controlled above the shoulder, then lower slowly. Complete the set before recreating the same setup on the other arm.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
