Foot-SMR

Foot SMR applies pressure to the plantar surface of the foot using a small roller, ball, or similar object. Although the source lists the calves as the primary muscle, the movement directly addresses the tissues along the arch of the foot.

Training context

What Is Foot SMR?

The foot rolls over the implement while bodyweight controls the pressure. Small changes in foot position allow different areas of the arch to contact the roller.

Pressure should remain tolerable and should not cause sharp pain, numbness, or tingling. A hard PVC pipe may feel much more intense than a softer roller or ball.

Technique overview

Use pressure you can release immediately

Sit with the bare foot resting over the roller. Gradually press down and move slowly along the arch without rolling directly over painful bony areas. Pause briefly on a tolerable spot, then reduce pressure before moving. Repeat on the other foot with similar control.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
