Exercise guide
Front Plate Raise
The Front Plate Raise is a two-handed shoulder exercise performed with a single weight plate. The arms lift the plate from the waist toward shoulder height while the torso remains upright. Holding one implement keeps both arms connected throughout the movement.
Training context
Before Adding the Front Plate Raise
The plate must be easy to grip securely at both sides. Plates with handles may be easier to control than smooth iron plates, especially as the hands become fatigued.
The arms should remain softly extended rather than rigidly locked. Raising the plate above shoulder height is optional and should depend on shoulder comfort.
Technique overview
Hold the plate securely at both sides
Stand tall with the plate held at the three and nine o'clock positions. Raise it forward without swinging, leaning backward, or bending the elbows to shorten the lever. Pause near shoulder height, then lower slowly. Stop before the grip becomes unreliable.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
