Jerk Balance
The Jerk Balance is an Olympic lifting drill used to practice moving into the front half of a split-jerk receiving position. The bar begins in the front rack while the feet are already partially split. A short dip and drive help the athlete move forward under the bar.
Training context
What Is the Jerk Balance?
The drill is particularly useful for lifters who leave the front foot short or move backward during a split jerk. The rear foot remains largely fixed while the front foot travels into a complete split.
Use an empty bar or light load until the landing position is consistent. The goal is accurate footwork and overhead stability, not pressing strength.
Technique overview
Drive up, then move the front foot forward
Begin with the bar racked and the feet in a short split. Dip vertically and drive through the legs, then move the front foot forward while receiving the bar overhead. Lock the arms and stabilize the split before recovering. Bring the front foot back partway, then the rear foot forward to finish standing.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
