Lateral Raise - With Bands
The Band Lateral Raise lifts the arms away from the sides against resistance that increases as the band stretches. The middle portion of the shoulders provides the main effort while the upper back helps stabilize the shoulder blades.
Training context
Benefits of Band Lateral Raises
Bands are easy to set up and create relatively little resistance near the bottom, where many lifters find lateral raises most difficult. Resistance becomes greater as the hands rise.
The source uses a pouring-water cue that turns the thumbs downward. A neutral hand position or slightly raised thumbs is often more comfortable and avoids forcing internal shoulder rotation.
Technique overview
Raise the elbows without shrugging
Stand evenly on the band and hold the handles beside the thighs. With a soft elbow bend, raise the arms out to the sides until they approach shoulder height or the highest comfortable point. Keep the neck relaxed and lower the handles slowly without allowing the band to snap back.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
