Exercise guide
Log Lift
The Log Lift is a strongman clean and press performed with a large neutral-grip implement. The shoulders and triceps finish the overhead press, while the legs, hips, chest, back, traps, and abdominals contribute to the clean and drive.
Training context
Muscles Worked by the Log Lift
The movement is full-body despite shoulders being listed as primary. The lower body lifts and accelerates the log, the torso supports its unusual shape, and the upper body stabilizes it overhead.
The source's statement that there are no strict form rules should not be treated as permission to use uncontrolled technique. Strongman competition may allow several pressing styles, but each still requires practiced positions and secure equipment.
Technique overview
Separate the lap, clean, and press
Lift the log into the lap, reposition the torso and hands, then extend the hips to roll it securely onto the chest. Use a short dip and leg drive to begin the press, finishing with the elbows extended and head through. Lower to the chest and guide the implement back to the floor under control.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
