Exercise guide

Peroneals-SMR

Peroneals-SMR applies controlled foam-roller pressure to the muscles along the outside of the lower leg. These tissues are distinct from the larger calf muscles behind the shin.

Training context

Setup Cues for Peroneal Foam Rolling

Position the roller on the muscular area below the outer knee and above the ankle. Avoid direct pressure over the fibular head near the knee, where the common fibular nerve is relatively exposed.

The upper foot can remain on the floor to reduce pressure. More bodyweight is not necessarily more effective.

Technique overview

Roll the outer lower leg slowly

Support the body on one forearm and place the roller beneath the outer lower leg. Use the upper foot to control pressure as you move through a short area between the knee and ankle. Pause over mild muscular tension, avoid bony landmarks, and repeat on the other side.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
