Rocking Standing Calf Raise
The Rocking Standing Calf Raise alternates ankle plantar flexion and dorsiflexion while a barbell rests across the shoulders. The calf muscles raise the heels, while the muscles along the front of the lower leg lift the toes.
Training context
Muscles Worked by the Rocking Calf Raise
The calf complex produces the heel raise, while the tibialis anterior and other dorsiflexors create the toe-lifting portion. The trunk and legs stabilize the standing barbell position.
Because balance changes as the feet rock, use conservative loading and remain inside a rack with correctly placed safeties.
Technique overview
Keep the bar still while the ankles move
Unrack the bar and establish a balanced stance. Raise the heels without bending the knees further, lower under control, then lift the toes while the heels remain grounded. Keep the torso steady through both actions and walk fully into the rack before replacing the bar.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
