Exercise guide

Seated Cable Shoulder Press

The Seated Cable Shoulder Press trains the shoulders and triceps against continuous cable resistance. Independent handles allow each arm to follow its own path.

Training context

Muscles Worked by the Cable Shoulder Press

The shoulders raise and stabilize the upper arms while the triceps extend the elbows. The trunk also maintains the seated posture, particularly when the back is not supported.

Handle and pulley positions vary between machines. Adjust the seat so the starting position is comfortable rather than forcing both elbows to exactly 90 degrees.

Technique overview

Press upward without shrugging

Sit firmly with the handles near shoulder level and the forearms positioned under the hands. Press overhead through a comfortable path without allowing the shoulders to rise toward the ears. Pause with the arms controlled, then lower slowly while maintaining cable tension.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
