Exercise guide
Seated Side Lateral Raise
The Seated Side Lateral Raise trains the shoulders by raising the dumbbells outward from the sides. Sitting reduces lower-body momentum and makes changes in torso position easier to notice.
Training context
Setup Cues for Seated Lateral Raises
Sit with the feet planted and dumbbells hanging beside the thighs. Keep a soft elbow bend and use a neutral or slightly thumbs-up hand position rather than deliberately turning the little fingers upward.
The arms do not have to reach perfectly parallel to the floor. Stop at the highest point that remains comfortable and free of shrugging.
Technique overview
Lead outward with the elbows
Raise the dumbbells out to the sides while keeping the torso still and shoulders relaxed. Stop near shoulder height or earlier when needed. Lower slowly until the arms return beside the body without allowing the weights to swing.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
