Exercise guide

See-Saw Press (Alternating Side Press)

The See-Saw Press alternates dumbbell overhead presses while the torso bends slightly away from the working arm. The shoulders and triceps press the weights while the abdominals control the shifting trunk position.

Training context

Who May Find the See-Saw Press Useful?

This is an advanced pressing variation for users who already control standard standing dumbbell presses. The side bend increases coordination demands and should not be used to lift a weight that cannot be pressed normally.

Users with lower-back or shoulder discomfort may prefer a strict alternating press with the torso upright.

Technique overview

Alternate sides without collapsing the torso

Hold both dumbbells at shoulder height. Press one overhead while allowing only a small, controlled bend toward the opposite side. Return the dumbbell and torso toward center as the other arm begins. Keep both feet planted and avoid jerking between sides.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
