Standing Alternating Dumbbell Press
The Standing Alternating Dumbbell Press trains the shoulders and triceps while one arm presses and the other remains at shoulder height. Alternating sides adds a trunk-stability demand that is not present in a seated press.
Training context
How the Alternating Press Differs
Only one dumbbell moves at a time, but both shoulders remain under tension. The torso must resist leaning or rotating toward the working side.
Count repetitions consistently, either per arm or as complete left-and-right cycles. Use the same method when comparing workouts.
Technique overview
Hold one dumbbell steady while the other presses
Stand with both dumbbells at shoulder height and brace the torso. Press one weight overhead without leaning away from it, then lower it to the original position. Stabilize both weights before pressing with the opposite arm.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
