Exercise guide
Standing Bradford Press
The Standing Bradford Press moves a barbell from the front of the shoulders to behind the head and back without fully locking out overhead. The shoulders remain under continuous tension while the triceps assist.
Training context
Using the Bradford Press in a Workout
This is a mobility-dependent shoulder exercise rather than a heavy overhead press. The bar should clear the head comfortably without forcing the shoulders or neck.
Use an empty or lightly loaded bar until the path is smooth. A standard press is a better choice when the behind-the-neck position is uncomfortable.
Technique overview
Guide the bar over the head without forcing depth
Begin with the bar across the front shoulders and a comfortable grip. Press just high enough to move the bar over the head, lower it toward the upper traps through a controlled range, then reverse the path. Keep the torso upright and avoid dropping the bar into either position.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
