Standing Calf Raises

The Standing Calf Raise machine loads the calves while the shoulders remain supported beneath the pads. The elevated foot platform allows the heels to move through a larger range.

Training context

Why Standing Machine Calf Raises Are Useful

The machine provides external support and a stable loading path, making it easier to focus on ankle movement than with a free barbell. It also allows small load adjustments.

Set the shoulder pads and foot platform before beginning. Foot angle can be chosen for comfort, but it does not completely isolate separate regions of the calves.

Technique overview

Pause at both ends of the ankle range

Stand with the balls of both feet secured on the platform and shoulders beneath the pads. Lower the heels under control, press upward through the forefeet, and pause briefly at the top. Keep the knees softly extended and avoid bouncing out of the bottom.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
