Exercise guide

Standing Dumbbell Calf Raise

The Standing Dumbbell Calf Raise loads the calves while the dumbbells hang beside the body. Using an elevated platform can increase the available ankle range but also makes balance more demanding.

Training context

Setup Cues for Dumbbell Calf Raises

Use a wide, stable platform that cannot slide or tip. If balance limits the movement, hold one dumbbell and use the free hand for support.

Keep the foot position comfortable and consistent. Turning the toes does not precisely isolate one part of the calf.

Technique overview

Keep the platform and ankle path stable

Stand with the balls of the feet secure on the platform and dumbbells controlled at the sides. Lower the heels slowly, press upward through the forefeet, and pause at the top. Avoid rocking the dumbbells or bending the knees to create extra movement.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
