Exercise guide
Standing Dumbbell Press
The Standing Dumbbell Press trains the shoulders and triceps while the trunk and lower body stabilize the unsupported position. Each arm controls its own weight and path.
Training context
Keeping the Standing Dumbbell Press Controlled
Use a load that can be pressed without leg drive or excessive backward lean. The dumbbells do not need to touch at the top.
A neutral or slightly angled hand position may feel more comfortable than forcing the palms completely forward. Keep the same grip when comparing sets.
Technique overview
Press overhead without changing the torso angle
Stand firmly with the dumbbells at shoulder height and brace the torso. Press both weights upward until the arms reach a controlled finish. Lower them to the same shoulder position without dropping or allowing the ribs to flare.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
