Exercise guide
Standing Front Barbell Raise Over Head
The Standing Front Barbell Raise Over Head moves a barbell through a long arc from the thighs to an overhead position. The shoulders control both the lift and return.
Training context
Muscles Worked by the Overhead Front Raise
The shoulders provide the main movement while the grip and trunk stabilize the bar. The long lever makes this exercise substantially harder than the same load used for a press.
Use a light bar and stop at shoulder height when the overhead range requires the torso to lean backward.
Technique overview
Raise the bar without creating momentum
Stand tall with an overhand grip and elbows softly extended. Lift the bar forward and upward through a controlled path, stopping at a comfortable height. Lower slowly to the thighs without dropping the bar or shifting the torso.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
