Exercise guide

Standing Palms-In Dumbbell Press

The Standing Palms-In Dumbbell Press trains the shoulders and triceps with both palms facing one another. The neutral grip allows the elbows to travel slightly forward of the torso.

Training context

How the Neutral-Grip Press Differs

Compared with a palms-forward press, the neutral grip can create a more natural shoulder and wrist position for some lifters. The dumbbells remain independent throughout the movement.

Use a load that does not require leg drive or a large backward lean. Keep the grip consistent from the bottom to the top.

Technique overview

Keep the palms facing throughout the press

Stand with the dumbbells at shoulder height and palms facing inward. Brace the torso, press both weights overhead, and stop at a controlled arm position. Lower slowly until the elbows return to the chosen starting depth.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
