Exercise guide

Upward Stretch

The Upward Stretch reaches both arms overhead to create a gentle stretch through the shoulders. The chest and lats may also be affected as the hands move upward and slightly behind the body.

Training context

Upward Stretch Explained

The movement should come from the available shoulder range rather than from pushing the ribs forward or arching the lower back. The palms may remain together only if that hand position is comfortable.

Use steady breathing and stop before the shoulders pinch or the torso begins compensating for more range.

Technique overview

Reach upward without arching the back

Stand tall and extend both arms overhead. Reach the hands upward and slightly back while keeping the ribs and pelvis controlled. Hold a mild stretch through the shoulders and upper torso without forcing the palms together. Return the arms gradually to the starting position.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
